The Declaration originally took the form of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(21)01589-0\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter in the&nbsp;<em>Lancet<\/em><\/a>, published on July 7th, in which 120 self-described \u2018scientists\u2019, many of them members of Independent SAGE, described \u2018Freedom Day\u2019 as \u201cdangerous and premature\u201d. They cited the SAGE modelling showing there would be 100,000 new Covid cases a day if the Government went ahead with its plans and set out the dire consequences for Britain and the rest of the world. \u201cWe believe the Government is embarking on a dangerous and unethical experiment, and we call on it to pause plans to abandon mitigations on July 19th, 2021,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks on from \u2018Freedom Day\u2019, their predictions aren\u2019t holding up terribly well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Public Health England, the number of new daily cases&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9856959\/UKs-daily-Covid-cases-fall-five-week-low-21-691.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fell to 21,691 today<\/a>, another five-week low.
